Local girls' wrestlers compete at Pre-Regionals

Local girls’ wrestling teams recently competed at the Pre-Registration Tournament: Region 4 at Claymont High School, and while Warren took the top spot with 167 points, here are some highlights from Mount Vernon News coverage area teams.

Next up for those who placed in the top four in the tournament is the regional meet at Olentangy Orange on March 2.

Highland (4th, 89 points)

Emma Bolton won the 190 pound class with a pin of Kami Anthony of Steubenville at 0:47.

Iliana Men-Hartley was second in the 120 pound class, as she was pinned in the championship match by Hailey Wygle at 2:16.

Brianna Tuggle pinned Davina Albright of Whetstone at 0:35 to take third in the 125 pound class. Chloe Perdas also took third in the 145 pound class, pinning Annie Craft of Fredericktown at 4:02.

In the 140 pound class, Mia Arick was fourth when she was pinned by Ruthi Walsh of Fredericktown at 0:49. Madalynn Morrison was fourth in the 235 pound class, and was pinned at 2:25 by Johnna Paynter of Tri-Valley.

Mount Vernon (5th, 75.5 points)

Ashlyn Brokaw won the 105 pound class with a 14-0 major decision over Kyrie Valentine of Maysville.

Emma Rinehart was second in the 115 pound class, and was pinned at 3:26 by Kandice Spry of Tri-Valley in the championship match.

In the 120 pound class, Mahayley Laverick pinned Madison Berlin of Big Walnut at 2:17 to take third.

Ella Kennedy was fourth in the 170 pound class when she was pinned by Abbey Enders of Olentangy Berlin at 2:23.

Khadija Ndow was fifth in the 155 pound class and will be an alternate at regionals.

Utica (9th, 61 points)

Hailey Wygle won the 120 pound class with a pin of Iliana Men-Hartley of Highland at 2:16.

Annie Franks pinned Kate Pierson of Warren at 0:40 to take third in the 115 pound class.

Hanna Wygle and Mikylie Woodruff took fifth place and will be alternates at regionals.

New Philadelphia (11th, 45 points)

Easton Miller took second in the 110 pound class, when she was pinned by Talea Guntrum of Steubenville at 1:55 in the championship match.

Annabelle Rummell was fourth in the 130 pound class. She was pinned in the third place match by Riley Duffey of Big Walnut at 2:52.

Isabelle Ramirez pinned Miriella Musawu of Whetstone at 1:56 to take fifth, and will be an alternate at regionals.

Fredericktown (12th, 38 points)

Ruthi Walsh was third in the 140 pound class with a pin of Mia Arick of Highland at 4:02.

Annie Craft was fourth in the 145 pound class, as she was pinned by Chloe Perdas of Highland at 4:02. Also taking fourth was Lilly Rose in the 190 pound class. She was pinned by Alivia Russell of Warren at 2:06.

“We are thrilled to have three of our eight hardworking wrestlers competing at Regionals, and are looking for great things on the mat this weekend,” said Coach Ellen Hoam.

Cardington-Lincoln (15th, 16 points)

Cameron Sherman was second in the 170 pound class when she was beaten by Maria Nutter 7-5 in the championship match.
