Local girls’ wrestlers competed last weekend, with athletes from Mount Vernon and Highland taking wins in their respective weight classes.
Delaware Hayes Girls Wrestling Invitational
The Delaware Hayes Girls Wrestling Invitational was held on Feb. 17, with sophomore Emma Bolton of Highland and freshman Ashlyn Brokaw of Mount Vernon taking first place.
Bolton pinned Evelyn Bowman of Delaware Hayes at 2:43 to win the 190 pound weight class.
Brianna Tuggle of Highland made it to the third place match in the 125 pound class, but lost by a 10-1 major decision. Madalynn Morrison pinned Mikayla Thorp of Marion Harding at 1:42 to take fifth place.
For Mount Vernon, Brokaw pinned Madie Gladden of Delaware Hayes at 1:21 to win the 105 pound weight class. She pinned Taylor Davis of Whetstone at 2:20 in the semifinal match.
Emma Rinehart of Mount Vernon took third in the 115 pound weight class by pinning Kelly Lemons of Hilliard Bradley at 3:48.
Carrollton Lady Warriors meet
The New Philadelphia girls’ wrestling team placed 13th out of 39 teams in the Carrollton Lady Warriors meet.
Isabelle Ramirez placed third in the 190 pound weight class with a pin of Kami Anthony of Steubenville at :41.
Easton Miller was fifth in the 110 pound weight class by pinning Julia Marshall of Mentor at 2:04.
Kaydence Sansom was fifth in the 120 pound class. She made it to the seventh round and lost by pin in her final match to Jillian Patterson of Claymont at 4:22.
