The East Central Indiana Classic (ECIC) wrestling competition was held Dec. 23, and Mount Vernon High school placed third out of 16 competing teams, with 181.5 points. Jay County won with 206.0, Oak Hill was second with 196.0, and Bluffton finished behind Mount Vernon, with 172.0.
At 113 pounds, Brock Blankenhorn (8-3) placed third and scored 17.0 team points, winning rounds one and two, losing in a fall in the semifinal and winning the third-place match.
At 120 pounds, Dylan Hartman (8-3) placed third and scored 18.0 team points. He won rounds one and two, lost by a decision in the semis and won by a fall in the third-place match.
At 126 pounds, Charlie Bell (13-5) placed sixth, losing in round one, winning three consolation rounds, then losing in the fifth-place match.
At 126 pounds, Colton Spurgeon (10-1) placed second and scored 24.0 team points. He won by falls in the first three matches and lost by a decision in the finals.
At 132 pounds, Rylan Firebaugh (8-3) placed fifth and scored 11.5 team points. After winning round one, he lost in round two, then won three consolation matches.
At 132 pounds, Kayden Packard (2-3) placed eighth, winning in rounds one and three and losing in three other rounds.
At 138 pounds, Isaac Burrell (6-5), won in round one, lost in round two to teammate Gabe Shannon, then lost in round three.
At 138 pounds, Gabe Shannon (8-4) placed third and scored 19.0 team points. He won in round one, pinned teammate Isaac Burrell in round two, lost in the semis and won the third-place match.
At 145 pounds, Conner Lang (6-7) placed eighth and scored 6.0 team points. He won, lost, won, lost and lost in his round matches.
At 152 pounds, Jake Taylor (9-2) placed second and scored 24.0 team points, winning his first three matches before losing in the finals.
At 152 pounds, Cam Firebaugh (3-5) lost two matches.
At 10 pounds, Karter Harris (10-5) placed fifth and scored 14.0 team points. He won the first round, lost in the second, then won three straight consolation rounds.
At 170 pounds, Karter Howard (7-5) placed fourth and scored 13.0 team points. Her won his first two rounds and lost his next two matches.
At 182 pounds, Zach Thomas (134) placed sixth and scored 13.0 team points. He won his first round match, lost in the quarterfinals, won two consolation rounds then lost in the fifth-place match.
At 285 pounds, Nate Stradley (9-2) placed second and scored 22.0 team points. Stradley won his first three rounds before losing to undefeated Jason Orr of Muncie Central (15-0) in the final.
