The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team started 2022 with three wins in its first four games. The Lady Cougars opened its season with a pair of wins over Clarke University (3-2, 0-0) and Warner University (3-4, 0-0) by final scores of 9-1 and 4-0 on Friday, February 25 in Kissimmee, Florida. The following day was another doubleheader and the Lady Cougars split, defeating Florida National (8-4, 0-0) in game one 8-5 and falling to the University of Michigan-Dearborn 8-6 (2-1, 0-0) in game two.

The Mount Vernon Nazarene baseball team began the season with a 10-day, nine-game tune-up against Sunshine State schools as they ready themselves for Crossroad League play and the 2022 season, looking to improve upon their 34-22 mark of last year. The Cougars began with two losses, but picked up their first win of 2022 in convincing fashion, with a 12-2 victory over Lyndon State, Feb. 23.

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s track and field team finished ninth at the Crossroads League Indoor Championships, hosted by Taylor University on Saturday, February 19. On the men’s side, the Cougars placed seventh, but Kyler Dickey claimed the conference championship in the shot put.
Cougars baseball season starts next week

Major league baseball may be locked out, but local ball starts next week, sort of. The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team kicks off their season on Monday, February 21 as the team travels to Florida for their Spring Break trip, where they will play nine games across 10 days. The team will primarily be playing in the cities of Winter Haven and Davenport, but will also play at Babson Park and Lake Wales

January 29 was sweep day for the Cougars and Lady Cougars against the Huntington University Foresters. The MVNU women’s basketball team (13-10, 7-4) defeated the Foresters (2-18, 0-9) by a final score of 79-52 and the Cougars men’s basketball team (15-8, 6-5) beat Huntington University (16-8, 5-7) 89-84 at Ariel Arena.

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team (12-10, 6-4) mounted a second-half charge to defeated the University of Saint Francis Cougars (11-7, 5-4) 90-80 on Jan. 26 at Ariel Arena in Mount Vernon. The spirited win was head coach Amanda Short’s 100th career, collegiate win.
