MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – A tense, seesaw final set that lasted 68 points went to the Cougars, enabling the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s volleyball team (10-11, 3-7) to defeat Mount Union (7-8, 4-0) in four sets on Saturday, March 12.

MVNU took the first set 25-17 before dropping set two by a score of 25-22. MVNU responded to the set loss with a 25-21 set three win. The fourth set was a wild one as both teams refused to lose the back-and-forth confrontation. Tied at 33-33, MVNU was able to gain separation and close out Mount Union. Luke Funte had the match-sealing kill to give MVNU the victory.

Caden Donaldson had a match-high 15 kills for the Cougars and chipped in with 11 digs. Spencer Stanley and Landon Ewers each had 14 kills for MVNU. Stanley added nine digs and Ewers had a block and three block assists. Jaysen Matsumoto had 51 assists and nine digs for MVNU, and Daniel Skrzypchak had a team-high 12 digs.
