GEORGETOWN, Ky. – In a tri-match doubleheader Saturday, March 5, the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s volleyball team (7-11, 3-7) defeated Cardinal Stritch University (6-9, 5-3) in the opener and fell to No. 15 Georgetown College (14-5, 8-1) in the nightcap.
In the first match of the day, the Cougars beat Cardinal Stritch University three sets to one. MVNU won the first set 25-22 and the second by a score of 25-21, but the Wolves came back to beat the Cougars in the third set, 25-22. However, the Cougars were able to bounce back and clinch the match with a 25-19 victory in set four.
In the second match, MVNU squared off with the hosts, No. 15 Georgetown College. The Tigers swept MVNU in three sets – 25-23, 25-13, and 25-17.
Against Cardinal Stritch, Caden Donaldson led the Cougars in the first match with 12 kills and eight digs. Riley Barretto also had 12 kills and came up with four digs. Spencer Stanley added 10 kills, four digs and three assists. Landon Ewers had nine kills and two digs, and Jaysen Matsumoto contributed 41 assists and 11 digs.
In the second match, against Georgetown, Stanley had eight kills, Ewers and Donaldson each picked up seven kills, Barretto had five kills and Matsumoto chipped in with 27 assists.
