Track team picks up three firsts in George Glass Invitational

UPLAND, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University track and field team competed in the George Glass Invitational, hosted by Taylor University, on Saturday, April 2, and three members of the men’s team won their events.

Erich Rhodeback, a graduate of Mount Vernon High School, placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with an “A” standard time of 14.45 seconds, a school record. Connor Williams placed fourth in the event with a time of 15.75.

Rhodeback struck gold again, when he, Marcus Whaley and Jaden Haldeman placed first, second and third in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 54.90, 56.00, and 57.26.

The men’s 4x800-meter relay team of Colin Gaines, Alex Jenney, Isaac Ramseyer and Evan Hodkinson also placed first with a time of 8:05.37.

In field events, Kyler Dickey placed third in discus with a throw of 43.36 meters; Zach Jenney placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 42.42 meters and fourth in shot put with a throw of 13.93 meters, and Zeke VanArsdalen set an outdoor school record in pole vault with a vault of 4.40 meters.

On the women’s side, Missy Emery placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 4.82 meters. Emery also placed seventh in the 200-meter run with a time of 27.25. Makayla Roberts placed fourth in discus with a throw of 39.15 meters, and Rachel Wilson, a graduate of Danville High School, placed fifth in the long jump with a jump of 4.33 meters.

Golf team opens season with ninth-place finish

UPLAND, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s golf team began its spring season in the Purgatory Intercollegiate at the Purgatory Golf Course in Upland, Indiana on April 1-2. 

MVNU placed ninth out of 10 teams in the invitational with a two-round score of 652 (331, 321). The hosts of the invite, Taylor University, placed first with a score of 600 (310, 290).

Top MVNU performances included Max Hahn, tied for 28th overall with a score of 161 (84, 77); Dylan Errington placed tied for 31st with a score of 162 (80, 82); and Brock Dettmer finished tied for 39th overall with a 165 (86, 79).

MVNU will return to action on April 10-11 in the ODU Invitational hosted by Ohio Dominican University.
