The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished first and second, respectively, at the Chip Wilson Invite on Saturday at Energy Fieldhouse in Mount Vernon.
The men’s team put together a solid effort as it finished first of the three teams competing in the meet. The Cougars scored 117 total points, besting NCAA Divison-II Walsh University, who scored 104 points. Central State came in third with 57 points.
Top men’s performers included:
- The men’s 4x400M relay team of Marcus Whaley, Liam Near, Jaden Haldeman and Bryce Wiles placed first and set a school record with a time of 3:25.78.
- Colin Gaines placed first in the 1000M run with a time of 2:41.09.
- Evan Hodkinson placed first in the 800M run with a time of 2:00.60.
- Alex Jenney won the 600M run with a time of 1:29.22.
- Sam Swanger and Noah Stephens placed first and second in the 1 mile with times of 4:45.19 and 4:45.41.
- Chris Graber placed third in the long jump and tied his PR with a jump of 6.40 meters.
- Kyler Dickey placed third in the shot put with a throw of 15.09 meters.
- Wiles placed third in the 60M with a time of 7.10 seconds.
The women’s team finished second of the three teams competing in the meet. The Lady Cougars scored 84 total points, finishing behind NCAA Division-II Walsh University who scored 100 points. Central State came in third with 81 points.

Ellie Ruby won the long jump event with a jump of 5.62 meters.
Emerson Hamsher placed first in the 1 mile with a time of 6:12.85.
Morgan Forney placed first in the 1000M run with a time of 3:13.78.
Makayla Roberts placed third in the women’s shot put with a throw of 11.99 meters.
Missy Emery placed fourth out of 15 runners in the 200M run with a time of 27.59.
