The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Men’s basketball team (11-5, 2-3) opened calendar 2022 with a 72-70 road win at Spring Arbor University (6-11, 0-5) on Tuesday, January 4. In a tight, highly competitive game from start to finish in Spring Arbor, Michigan, a big three-pointer from Clay Hilliard just before the end of the first half cut the Spring Arbor lead to 45-43 entering halftime.

Fitch’s record-breaking swims lead to NCAC award. The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) announced Monday that David Fitch, a Kenyon College senior, was voted the Athlete of the Week for men’s swimming and diving. It’s the first time this season and the third time in his career that Fitch won the award.

The nationally ranked No. 23 Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team (5-2, 0-0) made the short trip to Gambier, Ohio for a contest with their Knox County rival, Kenyon College (0-4, 0-0) on Wednesday, November 17. Despite scoring the opening points of the game, the Kenyon College women’s basketball team fell to MVNU, 89-54.

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s basketball team (6-0, 0-0) remained undefeated after a 99-72 road win at Ohio Christian University (0-3) on Tuesday, November 9. Ladies drop season opener at Heidelberg. The Kenyon College women’s basketball team opened the 2021-22 season Tuesday, but the non-conference contest at Heidelberg University closed with the Ladies suffering a 68-53 defeat at the hands of the Student Princes.

Cougars win season opener, 69-66, over Denison

The Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars men’s basketball team started the season off on the winning side of things Oct. 27, defeating Denison University by a final score of 69-66. MVNU took a 10-point lead into halftime but saw that lead quickly dwindle away in the second half after the Big Red started hitting timely shots. The Cougars shot 50% from the field in the first half, but in the second half they had to fight for every bucket and hit at a 39.3 clips in the second half. However, down there stretch, when the Cougars needed shots to fall, they got them.

Hilliard named to preseason All-Conference men's basketball team, Cougars ranked 7th

Projected to finish 7th in a preseason conference poll, MVNU guard Clay Hilliard was selected onto the Preseason All-Crossroads League Team and will play an integral role in the Cougars’ success this season.Due to injuries and the lingering effects of the pandemic, the 2020-21 season did not go the way head coach Jared Ronai and the Cougars had hoped.

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team begins its 2021-22 campaign on Friday, Oct. 22 as the Lady Cougars travel to Lawrence Tech University in Southfield, Michigan, and the season is filled with promise, as the Crossroads League Preseason Women’s Baskball Poll projects MVNU to finish fourth in the conference, behind Marian University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Taylor University. MVNU was just six votes (61) behind IWU and Taylor, who were tied for second place with 67 votes.
