Yellow Jacket grad named to college all-conference team

Kimberly Trapp, a Mount Vernon High School grad, was among three Indiana University East women’s soccer players named to the River States Conference all-conference first team.

Trapp, along with Sophie Pohlabel (Oxford, Ohio) and Gabby Mitchum (Brookville, Ind.) represented Indiana University East on the 14-player first team. The All-RSC teams were announced Nov. 12 as part of the lead-up to the conference tournament championship weekend.

Trapp made the all-league list as a forward after leading IU East with 11 goals this fall. Trapp already has set the Red Wolf program record for career goals with 21.

Lady Cougars make all-Academic team

Three Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball players – Paige Brenner, Ellie Ruby and Nicole Winkler – were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District women’s volleyball first team for the NAIA’s Division I.

The team recognizes the nation’s top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All‐America program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First‐team Academic All‐District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All‐America® ballot. First‐, second‐ and third‐team Academic All‐America honorees will be announced in mid‐December.

Brenner is a junior majoring in psychology and has a 4.0 grade point average. Ruby, a senior, will be receiving her degree in the spring in communication sciences and disorders. She has a 3.81 GPA. Finally, Winkler is also a senior and is majoring in environmental science. She maintains a 3.52 GPA.

Along with getting it done in the classroom, each was a stud performer on the court for the Lady Cougars. Winkler was an All-Crossroads League first-team honoree this season, while Brenner and Ruby each made the second team.
