NCAC recognizes Kern for three-goal field hockey run

The Kenyon College field hockey team played three games last week, won them all and clinched the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular-season championship. Monday, junior forward Bella Kern, who scored a goal in each of those three wins, was named the NCAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week. Kern is now a two-time winner of the NCAC weekly award.

The three-goal run gave Kern a dozen goals on the season, tying her with Sarah Metzmaier for the team lead. Two of her three goals last week held up as game-winners.

In a 1-0 win at home against Ohio Wesleyan University on Oct.25, Kern tallied the game’s only goal in the second quarter. Against Oberlin College on Oct. 27, she contributed another second-quarter goal, helping the Ladies post a 4-0 win. Finally, on Saturday, at the College of Wooster, Kern fired in a third-quarter score, propelling the Ladies a 2-0 win in the regular-season finale.
