Taking first place, swimming against five teams in a December 8 meet at River Valley, the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets swim team “dominated the pool,” according to Head Coach Kevin Steel.

The Highland Scots traveled to Pleasant High School on Dec. 4, and in a tough and close game, that was decided by free throw performance, the Scots went home with a 62-57 loss in what was the first win of the season for Pleasant. Mount Vernon wins 62-61 thriller over Mansfield. A tight first half moved into a come-from-behind situation in the second half for Mount Vernon (2-2, 1-0 OCC), as they beat Mansfield (2-2 1-1 OCC) in a thriller, 62-61.

Sports Briefs: ‘Jackets Girls tennis team wins two medals .Mount Vernon girls came away with two medals in last week’s Ohio Cardinal Conference Tennis Championships, held last Saturday, Oct. 2, at Mount Vernon Nazarene Tennis Courts and Memorial tennis Courts. Centerburg Lady Trojans go undefeated in golf. The Centerburg Lady Trojans golf team defeated Northmor, Sept. 29, to a sweep the KMAC conference with an 8-0 record. With a 195-210 victory, Centerburg finished the conference schedule undefeated.

MOUNT VERNON – As the Mount Vernon Yellow Jacket Colt football teams looked on, their high school counterparts tried to light up the field with big plays and fireworks.However, that show fizzled out before the first half ended. After two long touchdowns by Jonny Askew, the Jackets could muster little else Friday, as the previously winless Ashland Arrows coasted to a 35-17 Ohio Cardinal Conference victory at Yellow Jacket Stadium. Askew, a sophomore, scored a pair of field-length touchdowns each time he touched the ball in the first quarter.
