Konner Daughriety of the Mount Vernon Baseball team won the OCC Player of the Year Award. | Coach Nate Hunt

Konner Daughriety has not only been consistent, but he has been above and beyond on the baseball diamond during his storied Yellow Jacket career. This spring he has been named Ohio Cardinal Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season.

“His love for the game plus his work ethic has put him in a position to be named 2023 and 2024 OCC Player of The Year,” said Coach Nate Hunt. “His play on the field speaks for itself, but what people do not see behind the scenes is how much he has grown emotionally and as a man. That to me is the part I am most proud of.”

Daughriety posted a .468 batting average with six homers, 30 RBIs and 35 runs- all team highs. He also hit 11 doubles and walked 13 times. Daughriety’s slugging percentage was .870 and he boasted a .543 on base percentage, which put his OPS at a gaudy 1.413. He also saw the ball well with 13 walks. On the mound he went 6-1 with a save, an ERA of 1.235 and 50 strikeouts, with 17 walks in 34 innings.

Daughriety’s last outing on the mound was top tier, as the ace went all seven innings in a 7-0 shutout. He struck out eight, while allowing only two hits and a walk. Daughriety also did his thing at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs. Another big game on the hill for Daughriety was in an 8-0 win over Madison Comprehensive. He pitched five innings and struck out nine, while allowing only a hit and a walk in the win.

He been the ironman of the Mount Vernon baseball, playing all 102 varsity games over his four years. The star senior will certainly missed, but Hunt knows there are big things ahead Daughriety.

“Konner is going to go play at Ashland in the fall and I know that he is going to do great things, because that is the type of competitor he is,” Hunt said.
