Danville (3-3, 2-2) fended off a 26-point performance by Fredericktown’s (3-3, 0-3) Cally Carpenter on Dec.14, with Kylie Hess and Broegan Staats combining for 30 points in a 66-58 Blue Devils’ win over their KMAC rival.

Joining Danville’s linebacker Levi Lyons, who Monday was named Division-VII Defensive Player of the Year, Highland’s junior running back Dane Nauman was named Division-V Offensive Player of the Year on Tuesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association, which also selected its All-Ohio teams.

East Knox 61, Lucas 19 The East Knox Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0) showed up to play in a big way against Lucas (0-4, 0-1), with the team controlling the pace on both ends of the court in a 61-19 win Dec. 7.

Centerburg 62, Danville 48 Centerburg (2-1, 2-0) travelled to Danville (1-1, 0-1) for KMAC basketball action Dec. 6, and the explosive Trojans' duo of Colton Martin and Grayson Reynolds supplied an onslaught of scoring in a 62-48 win.

Mount Vernon (3-0, 1-0) is off to a red-hot start, and the Yellow Jackets continued their winning early season with a hard-fought 74-72 overtime victory over Ashland (1-3, 0-1) on Dec. 2.

Cardington-Lincoln 51, Fredericktown 46. Cardington-Lincoln (2-2, 1-0) hosted Fredericktown (1-2, 0-1) Nov. 30 and while Fredericktown had a two-point halftime lead, the Pirates were able to edge out the Freddies for a 51-46 win.

Cardington-Lincoln 57, Ridgedale 34. In what could be dubbed ‘the AJ game’, Cardington-Lincoln (2-0, 0-0) capitalized off a combined 31 points by AJ Hall and AJ Brehm to barrel their way to a 57-34 victory over Ridgedale, Nov. 29.

Mount Gilead’s Will Baker is the 2022 KMAC boys Cross Country Runner of the Year and Fredericktown’s Elsa Hoam is the girls Cross Country Runner of the Year. In Golf, Bennett Hill of Centerburg took the 2022 KMAC Golfer of the Year honor.

Basketball Briefs

Centerburg was undefeated at 7-0 in KMAC play, during a 9-2 season that ended with a play-off loss to Columbus Academy. They were led by senior quarterback Tyler Johnson, who was named KMAC Player of the Year. Mt. Gilead’s head coach Mike Reid was named KMAC Coach of the Year for a 4-3 KMAC and 6-5 overall finish.
