At the Marion Harding Classic wrestling invitational, Dec. 28-29, two local schools placed in the Top 10 and two of their wrestlers got to the finals, with Highland’s Cael Gilmore winning at 138 lbs. and Caylan LeMaster of Centerburg finishing second at 157 lbs. Gilmore defeated Michael Fister of Northridge, 3-0 and LeMaster lost a tough 9-4 decision to Ahmad Deifallah of Dublin Scioto.

Northmor (6-4, 4-2) and Clear Fork (3-7, 0-5) battled through two overtimes in what Northmor basketball coach Blade Tackett called an "absolute classic."

The post-COVID sports year was an exciting one.

On the first night of Highland's Holiday Showcase, the Fighting Scots (3-6, 0-5) utilized a complete team effort to take a 47-46 win over the Horizon Science Academy Hawks (5-5, 0-1).

Fredericktown (2-7, 0-5) benefitted from another solid scoring night out of Cally Carpenter, who is among the top scorers in the KMAC this season.

Cardington-Lincoln (7-2, 5-0) won their fifth in a row, and were led by a pair of Lady Pirates who hit double figures in a 38-33 win in overtime over KMAC rival Centerburg (3-4, 1-3) on Dec. 21.

Madison Comprehensive 59, Mount Vernon 54. Mount Vernon (4-3, 2-3) had a big night from Hudson Rohler against Madison Comprehensive (5-3, 2-2) last week, and despite a solid showing the Yellow Jackets took a five-point loss, 59-54.

Danville 58, Madison Christian 53. The Danville Blue Devils (1-5, 0-5) came back from being down 15, clawing their way to their first win, a 58-53 victory over Madison Christian on Dec. 17.

Danville 53, Northridge 51. Danville (3-3, 1-2) and Northridge (3-5, 2-4) battled it out until the end with a fourth-quarter shootout, and Jaylyn Workman was able to make some timely free throws down the stretch to help seal a 53-51 win for the Blue Devils on Dec. 20.

Highland (1-8, 1-4) won its first game of the season by crushing Galion (0-3) by a score of 57-17 on Dec. 17.

Grant Bentley put on an historic show in what was a school record 45-point night, as Northmor (4-2, 4-1) crushed Danville (0-4, 0-4), 74-40 on Dec. 16.
