Wednesday, Jan. 25: Fredericktown Girls Basketball at Lucas, 6 p.m.; Utica Girls Basketball at Granville, 7:15 p.m.; Centerburg Wrestling vs. Liberty Union, 6 p.m.

Mount Vernon’s Brock Blankenhorn took first place in the 106-lb. weight class.

East Knox 50, Northmor 42 (OT). Northmor (8-6, 6-4) and East Knox (7-9, 5-4) fought back-and-forth, but East Knox’s Sydney Opfer came up with a clutch three with five seconds left to send the game into overtime, where Ella Divan took over to secure the 50-42 win for the Bulldogs on Jan. 18.

Centerburg 61, Mount Gilead 27. The Centerburg Trojans had a big second half and had three players in double-digit scoring against Mount Gilead on Jan. 16, with the Trojans coming away with a dominant 61-27 win over the Indians.

Northmor 49, Mount Gilead 47. Mount Gilead (11-3, 6-2) and Northmor (8-4, 6-2) battled back-and-forth on Jan.14, and the Golden Knights were able to squeak by with a 49-47 KMAC victory.

Wednesday, Jan. 18 -- Fredericktown Boys Basketball at Colonel Crawford, 6 p.m.; Centerburg Girls Basketball vs. Mount Gilead, 7:30 p.m.; Danville Girls Basketball vs. Cardington-Lincoln, 7:30 p.m.; East Knox Girls Basketball at Northmor, 7:30 p.m.; Utica Girls Basketball vs. Watkins Memorial, 7:15 p.m.

The East Knox Bulldogs bowling team traveled to Coopers Bowling alley on Jan. 9 to take on fellow KMAC team the Ridgedale Rockets. The East Knox boys team went into this match undefeated, with a KMAC-leading record of 7-0.

Mount Gilead 65, Northmor 63. Matt Bland of Mount Gilead (7-6, 5-3) and Grant Bentley of Northmor (7-6, 5-3) battled in a shootout on Jan. 13, in which the Indians squeaked by with a 65-63 win thanks to a last second clutch shot by Aaron Gannon.

Danville (5-7, 3-5) had three players in double figures led by Ella Proper’s 16 points, to fuel an upset comeback 43-34 win over Knox Morrow Athletic Conference (KMAC)-leading Mount Gilead (11-2, 6-1) on Jan. 11, handing the Indians their first KMAC loss of the season.

Mount Gilead 61, Danville 59. Matthew Bland had a hot hand from deep and showed why he is one of the top players in KMAC this season, with a 27-point performance to lead Mount Gilead (6-6, 4-3) to a 61-59 win in a see-saw battle with Danville (4-7, 1-5) on Jan. 10.

Saturday, Jan. 14 - Cardington-Lincoln Boys Basketball vs. Crestline, 7:30 p.m., Mount Vernon Boys Basketball at Olentangy Berlin, 4 p.m., Centerburg Girls Basketball vs. Danville, 2:30 p.m., East Knox Girls Basketball vs. Fredericktown, 2:30 p.m

Mount Vernon 66, Ashland 43. Mount Vernon’s Caden Rowland has missed some time due to injuries but the 6-foot-3 senior showed no signs of rust in his return, leading the way with big scoring night on Jan. 6 in a 66-43 win over Ashland.

The Danville Blue Devils (4-7, 2-5) combined a monster display of offense and defense against Patriot Prep, with Kylie Hess leading on both ends of the court in a blowout 72-24 win over Patriot Prep (2-2, 2-0) on Jan. 5.

Trenton Collins was an unstoppable force in the second half for Utica (6-2, 1-1) on Jan. 3.

Freshman Ella Bouton put on a show with a double-double against Delaware Christian, leading Fredericktown (3-8, 0-5) to a 44-24 win on Jan. 2 to snap a five-game losing streak.

The year 2022 was a banner year in local high school sports. Last time, we took a look back at football, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball. This time out, we review volleyball and track. We will follow up with wrestling and cross-country next week.

Centerburg 48, Northridge 45 Kayla Larimore was tough to stop in a double-double performance to lead the Trojans (4-6, 1-4) to a 48-45 victory over Northridge (4-6, 2-4), Dec. 29.
