Cardington-Lincoln 51, Fredericktown 46 (OT)
Cardington-Lincoln (2-2, 1-0) hosted Fredericktown (1-2, 0-1) on Nov. 30, and while Fredericktown had a two-point halftime lead, the Pirates were able to edge out the Freddies for a 51-46 win in overtime.
The Pirates went up 13-7 after one quarter, but Fredericktown exploded for 20 points in the second, while holding Cardington-Lincoln to 12, making it a 27-25 game. After a low-scoring third quarter in which the Freddies outscoried the Pirates 5-4, Cardington-Lincoln battled in the fourth quarter to tie up the game 43-43 to go to overtime. It was all Pirates in the overtime period, outscoring the Freddies 8-3 to take the tough win.
The Pirates had a slight advantage in overall shooting at 44% compared to 40% for Fredericktown, but the Freddies shot 29% from three while Cardington-Lincoln shot 14%. Cardington-Lincoln had the rebounding advantage, 32-26, and a 18-10 assist advantage. The Pirates had 12 steals, and the Freddies had 11, but also added two blocks.
Cardington-Lincoln takes on Danville (1-1, 0-0) on Dec.10 at 7:30 p.m. at home. The Freddies host East Knox (0-2, 0-0) for a conference matchup Dec. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
Pleasant 48, East Knox 12
The East Knox Bulldogs (0-2, 0-0) had a tough matchup with Pleasant last week, as the team had trouble finding the basket in a 48-12 loss Nov. 28.
East Knox shot 19% from the field and did not hit a three-pointer, while Pleasant hit 44% of their shots and 23% from three. Natalie Smith had four points in the game for the Bulldogs.
East Knox hopes to get back on track Dec. 3 at Fredericktown (1-2, 0-1) for a conference matchup starting at 2:30 p.m.
Liberty Union 79, Danville 70
In a high-scoring affair between Danville (1-1, 0-0) and Liberty Union (1-2, 0-1), despite a big Danville comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils fell to the Lions at home, 79-70, Nov. 28.
Liberty Union had a 21-18 lead after one quarter and outscored the Blue Devils 22-17 in the second quarter to go into halftime ahead, 43-35. Liberty Union came out on a mission in the third quarter, putting up 30 points and holding Danville to 14, but then the tables turned in the fourth quarter, with Danville outscoring Liberty Union 21-6, led by Ella Proper’s 11 points. However, the gap was too wide, and Danville took the nine-point loss.
Proper was the top scorer for the Blue Devils with 25 points in the game. Jaylyn Workman scored 17 points, and Addison Mickley added 11 points.
The Blue Devils host Centerburg on Dec. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
Northmor 52, Centerburg 39
On Nov.30, Northmor (1-1, 1-0) traveled to Centerburg (1-2, 0-1) for a conference matchup and came away with a 52-39 victory for their first win of the season.
Turnovers were the name of the game in this one, as Northmor tallied 17 steals compared to seven for Centerburg. Both teams shot at about the same rate, with Northmor at 31% and 33% from three, and Centerburg at 30% and 28% from three. Northmor had 11 assists while Centerburg had nine, and Centerburg outrebounded the Golden Knights 39-33.
Northmor travels to Mount Gilead on Dec. 3 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Centerburg is also on the road against Danville (1-1, 0-0) on Dec. 3, with the game starting at 2:30 p.m.
Mount Vernon 44, Ashland 33
The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets (2-1, 1-0) took on the Ashland Arrows (0-4, 0-1) on Nov. 29 in a road conference matchup and walked away with a 44-33 victory for their first conference win.
The top scorer on the day was Rees Lepley, who put up 12 points for MV, including three from deep. Also hitting double figures was Brooklyn Thayer. Kimber Bell added nine points in the win.
Mount Vernon plays at Mansfield on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
