Mount Vernon Nazarene University hosts Andrew R. White in its Fall Lecture Artist series

Andrew White, a renowned vocalist and professor, will be visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) as part of its Fall Lecture Artist series. The event, which is open to the public, will take place on Oct. 20. White will be presenting a vocal recital featuring Franz Schubert's "Wintereisse" at 7:30 p.m. in Thorne Performance Hall located in the R.R. Hodges Chapel & Fine Arts Center.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University to allow students to complete Master of Ministry and Master of Divinity degrees

Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Nazarene Theological Seminary have formed a partnership that will allow students to complete both a Master of Ministry and a Master of Divinity degree. This collaboration will enable students to meet the coursework requirements for both programs.

Adults must accompany middle school students attending football games

Mount Vernon City Schools has implemented a new policy requiring that all elementary and middle school students attending football games be accompanied by an adult. The decision was made by Superintendent William Seder Jr. in response to disruptive behaviors and congestion in common areas during games.

Republican Pullins enters Ohio House District 98 race

Republican Scott Pullins has announced his candidacy for the House District 98 seat in Ohio. The Mount Vernon attorney intends to file for the August 2024 Republican primary, according to an announcement. Pullins previously ran against incumbent Darrell Kick in the August 2022 primary and lost by 684 votes.

Mount Vernon City Council to vote on elected officials' salary increases

The Mount Vernon City Council is set to vote on pay raises for elected officials during its meeting on October 9th. Prior to the meeting, an Employee and Community Relations Committee meeting will be held. The proposed ordinance includes salary increases for various elected positions, including the City Council president and council members, the mayor, the auditor, and the law director. The legislation is being considered an emergency measure to ensure the salaries are set before the November 2023 general election.
