A senior at Knox Learning Center, Gabriel Foote, was recognized during a "clap out" ceremony on Friday after completing all requirements for his high school diploma. Family members joined him for the event, which marked the end of four years at the alternative K-12 school operated by Knox Educational Service Center (ESC). The center serves students in Knox County and nearby districts who have challenges succeeding in traditional school settings.

Foote, formerly an East Knox student, spoke about the emotional impact of being bullied as a freshman and credited the Learning Center for helping him manage his emotions and prepare for life after graduation. He told director Joe Mazzari that he plans to open a used car business and noted that he has earned Automotive Service Excellence (ASC) certification.

"My years here have prepared me," Foote said. When talking about those who helped him during his time at the center, he smiled and said, "The list goes on and on."

Mazzari expressed confidence in Foote's future. "You have completed all of the academic requirements for graduation. You are ready to move on to the next stage of your life," Mazzari said. "All of the adversities you have overcome show me that you can accomplish anything in life that you want. Don’t let anyone or anything get in your way." Foote responded, "I won’t."

Foote will receive his diploma from East Knox High School and may choose to participate in their graduation ceremony in May.
