State Representatives Mark Hiner and Kevin Miller have announced the passage of House Bill 430 by the Ohio House of Representatives. The bill, which they co-sponsored, proposes naming a section of State Route 13 in Mount Vernon, Knox County, as the "Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Vance M. Andrews Memorial Highway."
Lt. Vance M. Andrews served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 12 years and was stationed in Columbus. He died on November 21, 1945, when his vehicle left the roadway and hit a bridge abutment while patrolling near Mount Vernon.
"Though Lt. Andrews passed nearly 80 years ago, it remains important that we honor his sacrifice and the service he gave to keep our communities safe," said Representative Hiner.
The bill aims to honor Lt. Andrews' memory by dedicating part of Route 13 in Mount Vernon as a memorial highway. This dedication is intended to serve as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of Ohio's law enforcement officers.
"The dedication of this roadway is to ensure the sacrifice of Lt. Andrews will be remembered for generations to come," said Representative Miller.
House Bill 430 will now proceed to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
