Jocelyn Scarbury delivered an impressive performance on the mound, striking out 11 batters in the Mount Vernon Varsity Yellow Jackets' 3-0 victory over Lakewood Varsity on Wednesday.
According to the game report, Scarbury allowed just four hits and no runs over seven innings, walking one to secure the win for Mount Vernon. Both teams showed strong pitching performances, with the Yellow Jackets’ pitchers striking out a total of 11 batters, while Lakewood’s hurlers recorded seven strikeouts.
Mount Vernon took the lead in the fourth inning. Brooke Dovenbarger singled down the left-field line, and Grace Bates followed with a double to center field, scoring both runs. Scarbury then added a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning to complete the scoring.
Lakewood's Ashlyn Carder pitched all seven innings, conceding six hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out seven and issuing no walks.
Dovenbarger, Scarbury, and Bates each contributed one run batted in for Mount Vernon. Bates led her team at the plate with two hits in three at-bats. Averie Adams led Lakewood with two hits in two at-bats. The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to face Licking Heights on Friday.
