Mount Vernon offense explodes in 9-4 victory over Granville | MVHS Athletics

Zac Clow struck out 12 batters and allowed just five hits as the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets Varsity baseball team defeated Granville 9-4 on Thursday.

According to the game report, Clow, a right-handed pitcher, went six and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs and walking three. The victory helped Mount Vernon improve to 9-4 on the season. Offensively, Kayden Packard led the Jackets with three hits in four at-bats, including a double and two singles. His performance helped the team build an early lead, with Mount Vernon scoring six runs in the second inning. Caden Theibert and Ezra Kurek each drove in a run, while Packard added an RBI single. A pair of errors also helped the Jackets push across two additional runs.

Mount Vernon added another run in the third when Packard singled to left field, extending their lead to 6-0. Granville’s Jackson McMillan took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) over four and two-thirds innings. He struck out six and walked none. Jakob Culver, the starter for Granville, gave up three hits and four runs (three earned) in just one and one-third innings.

The Jackets finished with 11 hits in the game, with Ethan Yost contributing two hits. Dammon Wolfe stole two bases, and Mount Vernon swiped four bases in total.

Aaron Gutridge went 1-for-4 and led the team with an RBI, while Granville’s offense was spread out among five players — Culver, Jacob Smith, Lucas Bosse, Gutridge, and AJ Buerkel — each collecting a hit. The Jackets’ next game is scheduled for Friday at Licking Heights.
