The No.13 Loudonville baseball team (11-13) had a strong start to their Northeast 1 Sectional/District tournament with a 12-2 win over No. 24 Windham in the Sectional Finals. Unfortunately that win put them head-to-head with No. 1 Hartville Lake Center Christian, who dominated in a 10-0 win in the District Semifinals.

The Redbirds took on the Windham Bombers on May 16, and cruised right from the beginning, with a commanding 9-0 lead after two innings.

In the first inning, Judah Layton smashed a two run single to left field, and Baylor Weiser knocked him home on a single to left of his own. Weiser later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-0 game.

The runs kept flowing in the second inning, when the Bomber pitching struggled with control. The Redbirds loaded the bases with a walk and batters hit by pitches, and Hunter Polen walked again to bring home a run. The next batter a run scored Layton and Weiser scored on two wild pitches. Loudonville walked two more times and then Easton Edwards was hit by a pitch, which brought home a run to make it 8-0. Weiser then scored in a fielder’s choice, and suddenly the Redbirds were up by nine runs

The Bombers put two runs on the board in the third inning, but Loudonville responded with three more runs to go up 12-2. In the third, Layton hit a single and Matt Sprang scored on an error. Weiser then hit an RBI single that brought home a pair of runs.

Sprang was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and three runs scored. Layton drove in two runs and went 2-for-2 with three runs. Weiser was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, two runs and a walk. Josh Serrato went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the win.

Sprang was excellent on the hill with nine strikeouts over five innings, allowing two hits, two runs but one earned, and three walks.

On May 21, the Redbirds couldn’t muster up any offense, but it was only a 2-0 game through three innings. The Tigers then put three up in the fourth and five insurance runs in the sixth inning to take the win in the District Semifinals.

Weiser and Dakota Wright each had singles in the game.
