The Ashland Arrows won the Ohio Cardinal Conference wrestling title on Feb. 17, with three wrestlers taking individual titles, and Coach Tommy Butler winning OCC Coach of the Year.

Ashland
Freshman Mason Bauer won the 106 pound weight class with a pin over Evvan Torchik of New Philadelphia at 4:59. He went 4-0 on the day with each win by pin.
Fellow freshman Guardian Miller took the 126 pound OCC title when he pinned C.J. Furlong of Wooster at 1:16 in the seventh round of the tournament. He went 5-0 in the meet.
Junior Cooper Smith beat Dylan Sours of West Holmes by a 4-2 decision to take the 190 pound class title.
Mount Vernon
The Yellow Jackets came into the meet as the reigning OCC champions, and while they were runners up this year, they still had four wrestlers taking gold.
In the 113 class, Brock Blankenhorn defeated Max Ohl of Ashland by a 5-1 decision.
Sophomore Alex Taylor took the OCC 215 pound title with a 4-1 win over Ashland’s Cayden Spotts.
Jake Taylor took first in the 157 pound class by beating Dylan Hudson of Wooster, 1-0.
In the 165 pound class, Hayden Higgins defeated Edgar Mejia-Ramos 8-6.
West Holmes:
The Knights had four OCC individual titles, led by the OCC Wrestler of the Year Louden Dixon. Dixon was voted as the top wrestler in the conference by coaches. Dixon is only a sophomore but it is his second straight OCC title. This year he beat Mount Vernon’s Mavrik Gregory in a top tier wrestling battle, as Dixon is ranked eighth Division II, while Gregory is 14th in Division I. Gregory had a 6-3 lead about halfway through the second period, but Dixon battled back and beat him 13-8. He was 5-0 on the day with a pin.
Three juniors won their first OCC titles in the meet. AAJ Roberts won his first OCC title in the 132 pound class. He was 5-0 on the day with four pins. He pinned Ryan Harris of New Philadelphia at 1:20 in the semifinals, and then dominated the championship match by pinning Isaak Wickham at 0:26.
Hunter McCluggage also won his first OCC title when he pinned senior Noah Fenton of Ashland at 1:32. He was 5-0 on the day, including three falls.
In the 175 pound class, Cole Porter went 5-0 with four pins. He pinned Kyler Howard of Mount Vernon at 1:32 to take the victory.
In the West West Holmes Wrestling newsletter, Coach Scott Vaughn said he felt the team had a good shot at the title going in, but he commended Ashland for the strong meet. He also praised the work ethic of his squad, which also had runners up with senior Grady Toye in the 126 pound class and sophomore Dylan Sours in the 190 pound weight class.
“Overall, I thought we wrestled well,” Coach Vaughn said in the newsletter. “Seeing as it's the last regular season tournament, this team has come a long way throughout the season. I am really proud of the work they put in and dedication to getting better every week.”
New Philadelphia
The Quakers were led by Tyler Ulmer, who beat Dallas Hall of Ashland with an 18-1 technical fall to take the 138 pound OCC title. He was 5-0 with a pair of pins in the meet.
Garrett Dillon-Rine also broke the New Philadelphia all-time wins record of 135. He now has 138 wins with 101 coming by pin.
Madison Comprehensive
The Rams got a conference win from Mike Thomas, who won the 120 pound class with a pin of Aden Burdulis at 1:48.
Also winning an OCC title was Jaxin Stancombe, as he beat Garrett Dillon-Rine of New Philadelphia 5-3.
Lexington
The Minutemen had two wrestlers take third in the conference meet. Cole Eichorn defeated Hayden DiPuccio of Ashland 11-4 in the 175 pound class. David Biggers placed third in the 190 pound class by pinning Jackson Korns of New Philadelphia at 2:14.
Wooster
The Generals had two runners up in the OCC meet. C.J. Furlong was pinned by Guardian Miller in the finals at 1:16 in the 126 pound class.
In the 157 pound class, Dylan Hudson lost 1-0 to Jake Taylor of Mount Vernon. He was 4-1 with two pins in the meet.
Mansfield Senior
Kayvon Smith had a win in the third round in the 175 pound class, beating Gage Cyrus of Madison Comprehensive 12-6.
