The No. 28 Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team (10-7-1, 4-3-1) won the first game of the Division I, Central 1- Sectional/District tournament with a 3-1 win over No. 34 Westland (7-10-1, 0-3-1) on Oct. 17, but their season ended in the second round with a 5-0 loss to No. 1 Olentangy (14-1-2) on Oct. 19.
Mount Vernon took a 2-0 lead after one half and then both teams scored a goal in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets took a 3-1 win. Micah Jones led the charge with two goals and Leonardo Bandini scored a goal for the Yellow Jackets. Donovan Moore had the loan goal for the Cougars, assisted by Aldo Peraza.
Goalkeeper Noah McCallen had 14 saves in the win for Mount Vernon. Luis Sollis saved five shots for Westland.
Mount Vernon led 4-1 in corners in the win.
Mount Vernon couldn’t find the net and were shut out by the Olentangy Braves. The win for the Braves was the third straight and go on to face No. 16 Winchester on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
