New Philadelphia's Etnie Richardson ran 27 times for 189 yards and two touchdowns and the Quakers' defense overwhelmed the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets on Friday, 35-10 at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium in New Philadelphia.
Junior quarterback Keaton Fausel gave the Quakers a first quarter lead, completing a 10 yard touchdown pass to Owen Schoelles, followed by a Richardson two point conversion.
Mount Vernon responded with a Gabe Montoya field goal in the first quarter that drew the Yellow Jackets (1-5) to within five points, 8-3. But that was as close as they would get.
New Philadelphia led 22-3 at halftime and 28-3 with a minute remaining in the game, when the two teams traded late touchdowns.
Fausel completed 18 of 28 passes and threw for two touchdowns, to Pete Didonato (nine catches, 64 yards) and Schoelles (three catches, 25 yards).
Fausel also ran for 53 yards and a score.
For Mount Vernon, junior quarterback Jake Taylor completed four of 11 passes for 39 yards and threw an interception. Two of the four completions were to senior Jonny Askew, who had two catches for 21 yards.
Sophomore running back Mavrik Gregory had seven carries for 67 yards and sophomore Mason Richards had three carries for 32 yards.
All told, the Yellow Jackets had 77 yards rushing and 30 yards passing. The Quakers had 255 yards rushing and 169 yards passing.
Hunter Looney recovered a New Philadelphia fumble.
Through six games for New Philadelphia, the 5'6, 165 pound senior Richardson has 142 carries for 914 yards and nine touchdowns. He is averaging 152 yard rushing per game.
Last year, the Quakers beat the Yellow Jackets 44-6, in Mount Vernon.
The Yellow Jackets have four games remaining this season, including next Friday at Wooster.
