The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets boys volleyball team (12-6) has been on fire as of late, and this time they knocked off the Licking Heights Hornets (13-5) on May 2, in a convincing sweep victory, 3-0, for their seventh straight win.
The first set could have been anyone’s to take, but the Yellow Jackets came out on top in extra points with a score of 27-25. The Yellow Jackets then took a 25-17 win in the second set and 25-16 win in the third set.
Parker Gantt was the offensive leader with 16 kills and two aces, to go with four blocks, nine digs and three assists. Setter Cooper Carpenter recorded 31 assists, seven digs and three kills. Ethan Cline posted seven kills, three blocks, 10 digs and an assist. Dash Lepley had six digs and an assist. Cameron Hart and Layne Kuhlman each put up five kills, and Kuhlman added an ace and a dig. Hart had four digs and an assist.
The Yellow Jackets' run of wins came to a close on May 3, however, in a 3-0 loss to St. Francis DeSales (15-4). Mount Vernon lost 25-14 in the first set, and it didn’t get much easier in the second and third sets, losing 25-17 and 25-15 respectively.
