The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets (11-5) have won seven out of their last eight matches, and five straight, with the most recent being a 3-0 sweep over St. Charles (10-7) on April 21.
While it was a sweep victory, the numbers per set tell more of the story, indicating that it was a close match. The Yellow Jackets beat the Cardinals 25-21 in each of the first two sets, and then finished the match off with a tight 25-23 win.
Parker Gantt was the top performer with a 16-kill match. He also had three blocks, 10 digs and an assist. Setter Cooper Carpenter had another solid match with 27 of the team’s 33 assists, as well as four digs, a kill and a block. Zack Karns put up nine kills, one ace and six blocks. Ethan Cline had eight digs, two blocks, two aces and two kills. Hunter Thompson recorded six kills, an assist and a dig.
