With sectionals starting Feb. 25, Mount Vernon High School tuned up by taking on 15 challengers in the Dublin Jerome All-North Tournament Feb. 11, and finished sixth with 108.0 points. Upper Arlington won with 180.5, just ahead of Marysville with 177.0.
Brock Blankenhorn won the 113-lb. championship with a 12-0 major decision over Mason Hart of Westerville Central. Three Yellow Jackets won bronze: Mason Mitchell was third at 144 lbs., Kyler Howard took third in the 175-lb. weight class and Luke Mullins nailed down the No. 3 spot at 190 lbs. Kayden Packard took a No. 5 finish at 165 lbs.
On the girls side, Mount Vernon placed in a tie for 17th among 32 teams at the Port Clinton Lady Redskin Invitational, Feb. 12. The Lady Jackets tied with Liberty Center at 31.0 points, as Fremont Ross won the event with 159.0 and Findlay was second with 152.0. Emma Rinehart brought home gold for Mount Vernon, winning the 115-lb. weight class with a pin over Findlay’s Olivia Gill in 3:32.
