Mount Vernon High School's Jacket Athletic Booster Club is teaming up with the Ohio National Guard, Knox Veterans Services, Mount Vernon Police Department and Mount Vernon Fire & EMS to promote Armed Forces and First Responders

Recognition Week from Sept. 22-24. 

The partners are organizing the event to recognize America's armed forces (current status and veterans) and first responders at Mount Vernon High School varsity athletic events from Sept. 22-24. Those service men and women will have free admittance to all MVHS varsity events for those days along with a ceremony to honor their sacrifice to the community and country. A badge or military card showing past or present duty is required for free admission per person. The Knox County Veterans Office, at 105 E Chestnut St. in Mount Vernon, can provide a veteran with his or her own free veterans card (with proof of service required) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. 

The following is a list of athletic events Sept. 22-24 for the recogntion week:

Thursday, Sept. 22 – Girls volleyball JV vs Wooster, starts at 5 p.m. in the MVHS gym.

Friday, Sept. 23 – Varsity football vs. New Philadelphia, kickoff at 7 p.m. at Yellow Jacket Stadium.

Saturday, Sept. 24 – Varsity boys soccer vs. Clear Fork at 1 p.m. and varsity girls soccer vs.Shelby High School at 3 p.m., both at Energy Field.

The Jacket Boosters' mission is to "encourage, support and advance the athletic programs of the MV High School and Middle School. Our Club will partner with the Athletic Department to achieve our mutual goals collaboratively through fundraising activities and community-related events."
