Roundup: Freddies hold off Trojans in KMAC play

The Fredericktown girls basketball team built a nine-point lead late in the fourth quarter before holding off visiting Centerburg 53-50 in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

The win secures a second-place finish in the league for the Freddies (16-5, 10-3), who trailed 26-23 at the half before taking control with a 19-8 third quarter.

Taylor Overholt, Summer Weller and Audrey Bouton scored 10 points each and Grace Sipes added nine points for Fredericktown, which hasn’t won 10 games in league play since the 2013-14 season when it won 11 games and tied Centerburg for the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division title.

Clara Johnson scored a game-high 19 points, Chloe Goulter had 10 points and Rebecca Scholl chipped in nine points for the Trojans (5-15, 4-10), who had a chance to tie in the final seconds but couldn’t get a shot off.

Heath 42, Utica 18

Visiting Heath used a stout defense, holding Utica to one free throw in the second quarter, and rolled to a 42-18 win in Licking County League play.

Shelby Flynn scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs (10-5, 9-4), who turned a five-point lead after one quarter into a 28-9 halftime advantage before cruising in the second half.

Shawna Blake and Delaney Kerstetter scored seven points each to pace Utica (1-18, 0-14).

BOWLING

Jordan Lacy caught fire with three 200 games in four tries to lead the Utica girls bowling team to a pair of wins over Zanesville and Sheridan.

Lacy rolled a 236 in the first game and a 226 in the second game to help Utica edge Sheridan 1,863-1,834 on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Redskin Lanes. Karen Lightle was also solid for Utica with a 355 series.

Lacy also rolled a 226 in the second game to finish off a 371 series, leading Utica to a 1,544-691 win at Zanesville on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Sunrise Lanes.

Blake French rolled a 456 series and Eric Schroeder had a 410 series, but the Utica boys bowling team fell to Sheridan 2,318-2,183.

Freddies sweep Mount Gilead

Steven Kollas (359 series), Griffin Wayne (355) and Justin Zollars (349) paced the Fredericktown boys bowling team in a 2,088-1,910 victory over host Mount Gilead in KMAC play on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Morrow Lanes in Cardington.

Dylan Farrell rolled a game-best 203 on his way to a 372 series to lead MG.

Ana Kraus helped the Freddie girls bowling team complete the sweep. She rolled a game-high 163 and a 311 series to lead Fredericktown to a 1,800-1,473 win over MG.

Ashleah Levings paced MG with a 301 series.
