Kenyon Ladies win 24th Div. III swimming title, Lords finish fifth

The Kenyon women won their 24th national title in program history, first since 2009, after the Ladies accumulated 446 points over four days of action at the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 24 national titles tops all women's programs in any sport and any division of the NCAA. The Kenyon men have won an NCAA-record 34 men’s national titles, and rounded out the top five at this meet with 282.5 points.

This week, a Utica wrestler took on tough foes in the winner-take-all state championships and made it all the way to the finals, to bring home a silver medal.

Let’s talk sports retirement. Tom Brady had a hall-of-fame career. Twenty-two seasons. Seven Super Bowl wins, a career record of 243 wins and 73 losses. Passing for 84,520 yards and 624 touchdowns (No.1 all-time in both categories), and at age 44, passed for 5316 yards and 43 TDs, taking his team to the NFC finals. On Feb .1, Brady announced his retirement from NFL football, saying he is “not going to make that competitive commitment anymore.”

Winning Tournament team honors went to Will Jensen of East Knox.

Young Utica baseball squad focused on 'kaizen' for constant improvement

The Lords took both games of the doubleheader – 9-2 and 13-4 -- to improve to 5-4 overall.

‘All in’: Lady Jackets softball eyes 5th straight conference crown

Coming off a big season in which they went 19-4 and 10-0 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference, the Mount Vernon Lady Jackets softball team is looking to fill the gaps left by seven graduated starters off last year’s team. The 2021 squad won their fourth straight conference title, outscored their opponents 274-67 and advanced to the OHSAA Softball State Div. 1 Regional Semifinals, where their run was stopped by Pickerington Central, 6-2, on May 26.

A student-athlete who frequents this award put together back-to-back performances in the OHSAA basketball play-offs and either one would have qualified him for this honor, but he did it twice in a row.

Jackets grad finishes second twice in college meets Logan Meyer, a 2018 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, finished second twice at the 2-day North Coast Atlantic Conference (NCAC) championships at Wittenburg University in Springfield on Feb. 25-26. Meyer a senior at Allegheny College (Meadville, Pa.) ran the 5000-meter race (3.11 miles) in 14:59.82 and finished second, earning him All-NCAC honors. On Saturday, he ran the 3000M with a time of 8:39.5, finishing second and again earning him All-NCAC honors.

Kenyon Ladies softball claims close games over Tigers, Panthers

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Kenyon College softball team moved its early-season record to 4-0 after another pair of wins Monday. The Ladies started the day with a 1-0 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and ended the day by rallying for a 7-4 win against University of Pitt-Bradford.
