Lords lacrosse team erupts for 14 goals
The Kenyon College men’s lacrosse team erupted for a 14-5 win over the Adrian College Bulldogs on Wednesday. Both teams had gotten off to strong 4-1 starts on the year, but the Lords dominated at the Benson Bowl on March 16.
Both teams started out the first quarter slowly, with neither able to get into an offensive groove. But the Lords slowly began to find a rhythm, pounding the ball into the center with sharp passing. With 5:21 left in the first quarter, Cameron Longway scored off a Chase MacCartee pass to break the deadlock. Longway soon added another goal, shooting from the outside left flank and finding the back of the net. Rollins Heath added an additional goal to give the Lords a 3-0 lead.
Ahead 3-1, the Lords wasted no time getting going offensively in the second quarter. MacCartee opened the scoring with a nifty flip goal off a perfectly centered pass from Ian Gobron. From there, Kenyon added a barrage of goals: Declan Curry scored his eight on the year, Joe Bossel added his fourth, and a mere six seconds later, first-year Thomas Nelson scored his first collegiate goal. All four goals were scored within the first four minutes of the quarter and put the Lords up 7-1, and Longway and Heath each chipped in another goal, sandwiching a single Adrian score, to give Kenyon a 9-2 lead heading into halftime.
The Bulldogs had their highest-octane offensive quarter in the fourth, netting three goals, but the Lords scored five of their own, including Tucker Fulton and Will Harrigan’s firsts of the season, to more than keep up the pace. At the final whistle, the Lords were victorious 14-5, moving their record on the year to 5-1.
Offensively, Longway led the team with three goals scored while MacCartee had two goals and an assist. Jack Giuffre led the Lords with two assists.
