In its recent meeting, the Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education voted to waive general school fees, including classroom supplies and course materials, for all incoming students this school year. The board also decided to continue serving free meals to all students, regardless of income.
“We understand that the cost of school supplies, meals, and other essentials can add up quickly for families,” Board President Jody Goetzman stated. “By waiving school fees and continuing to offer free meals, we hope to provide meaningful support and help keep costs down for parents in our community.”
Additionally, families are no longer required to fill out application forms to receive the free meals. Students from the Mount Vernon Local Schools will automatically be eligible to be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost.
To ensure that these ongoing efforts are smoothly implemented, families are advised to contact their building principal or secretary for further information and inquiries.
