Mount Vernon City Schools are reminding families to take advantage of Ohio’s 2025 sales tax holiday, which runs Aug. 1–14 and offers tax-free shopping on most tangible personal property priced at $500 or less.

This tax holiday supports families preparing for the upcoming school year, providing relief on items such as clothing, school supplies and electronics.

It began at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. Nearly all back-to-school essentials are eligible under the exemption, giving residents across Ohio a two-week window to save on key purchases.

School officials encourage parents and guardians to plan ahead and maximize the benefits. School supply lists for each student’s building have been posted to their respective school websites to help families prioritize purchases and avoid overspending.

To learn more about qualifying items and exemptions, families are advised to review the Ohio Department of Taxation’s Sales Tax Holiday FAQ, which offers detailed guidance for shoppers.
