Mount Vernon local students will play a significant role in honoring the sacrifices of veterans and service members.
The Mount Vernon Arts-Music group will participate in the Memorial Day Parade, which will unfold in Downtown Mount Vernon. The group will be among those who set the patriotic atmosphere, honoring the legacy of fallen heroes. Approximately 55 participants have registered to join the parade, according to Mayor Matt Starr.
The Memorial Day ceremony will commence after the parade at Knox Memorial Building, where Mount Vernon High School student Lily Mayville will perform the National Anthem.
To conclude the ceremony, Madalyn Noble, a Mount Vernon High School trumpeter, will perform “Taps”, a solemn and traditional tribute to those who have given their lives in service.
The annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26. Visit the City of Mount Vernon's Facebook page for further information.
