The Fredericktown Freddies baseball team is gearing up for the 2025 season with optimism, a renewed work ethic, and a strong sense of unity. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ryan Hathaway, the team has made significant strides during the offseason.

According to senior third baseman and pitcher Kaine Sheriff, "Our team has really bonded more this year. We've gotten close in the offseason and have been supporting each other, holding each other accountable." The players have committed to rigorous training, including early morning workouts and focused practice sessions. Senior catcher and outfielder Carter Mull believes this dedication will yield results. "The offseason work is going to propel us this year," Mull said. "We put in work this summer, and it's going to show on the field."

Senior pitcher and first baseman Devon Whitt noted improvements in individual skills, particularly in hitting and timing. Whitt said, "We've all been working hard to get better, both as players and as a team."

When discussing their goals for the season, Sheriff expressed a desire to enjoy his final year while preparing for his future career at Revere Roofing after graduation. Mull aims to help the team return to its winning ways with aspirations of playing college baseball at Dayton or Nazareth College. For Whitt, personal and team growth is paramount. He said, "We want to do better than last year, both individually and as a team," adding that he plans to study civil engineering at Akron University.

Each player draws inspiration from personal connections. Sheriff looks up to his brother and grandfather for support. "They're always there for me, and they give great advice," he said. Mull credits his family for motivating him both athletically and academically. "My dad pushes me to be the best player, and my mom pushes me academically," he said. Whitt finds encouragement from his friends who continually motivate him.

Coach Hathaway's influence extends beyond baseball fundamentals. Mull emphasized Hathaway's role in instilling discipline: "He teaches us discipline, makes us work hard, and holds us to high standards." Sheriff highlighted the coach's focus on academics alongside athletics: "He’s strict about grades, and that helps us as people and players."

The Freddies are prepared for upcoming challenges against rivals such as Clearfork, Northmor, and Centerburg. With a blend of seasoned players and emerging talent, they aim to make an impact this season. As Mull articulated, "We're young but we're growing. The work we're putting in is going to help us a lot." Fredericktown baseball anticipates a season marked by growth, camaraderie, and success.
