Centerburg High School's baseball team has experienced a historic season under the leadership of head coach Josh Moss. The Trojans completed their season with a 17-9 record, securing their first Knox Morrow Athletic Conference (KMAC) title since 1982 and only the second district championship in the program's history.
According to Moss, "This season was an outstanding step forward for our program." He highlighted the players' growth, resilience, and commitment to team-first baseball despite challenging weather conditions and tough competition. Centerburg's success was attributed to solid starting pitching, aggressive base running, and offensive contributions throughout the lineup. Senior players Mason Vallance and Aiden Trobridge were instrumental in establishing a strong team culture from the offseason.
Moss said, "Those guys set the tone back in September with their consistency and work ethic," adding that their example significantly shaped the team. Another standout player was senior Jonah Gribben, who improved his batting average from .229 last year to .338 this spring and became one of the top outfielders in the region.
Despite their postseason achievements, Moss identified defense as an area needing improvement. "Too many of our losses came from fielding errors and mental lapses," he said. The focus during the offseason will be on fundamentals and handling pressure situations.
Looking ahead, Centerburg aims for 20 wins, another KMAC crown, and consecutive district titles. There are also plans underway to construct a long-awaited on-campus field. Moss expressed optimism about these developments: "It’s been a long time coming," he said. "We’re excited for what’s next — not just for our high school team, but for the entire Centerburg baseball community."
