One win down and headed in the right direction should be the mentality of the Centerburg High football team, as they defeated Eastern Reedsville, 34-12 this past Friday, in the first round of the OHSAA Playoffs.
Eastern was able to get on the scoreboard first in the match-up, on a 25-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, but that did not seem to faze the local Trojans. On the next possession, Centerburg quarterback Blane Ball was able to find Jackson Ballinger 13 yards down the field for a Trojan touchdown.
In the second quarter, Eastern came right back, and found the end-zone on a three yard run, in what would be their final score of the night. The rest of the game was all Centerburg. The Trojans managed to score once in the second, and then found stride late in the game in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points.
Ball would account for two touchdowns on the night, as he completed 11 of his 18 pass attempts, and threw for 114 yards. Teammate Miles Marshall, the Trojans running back, ran the ball for 108 yards and scored once himself.
Centerburg is now 8-3 on the season, and is moving onto the second round of the playoffs. Their match-up will be against Northmor High this Friday. The two teams have met up previously this season, Northmor escaped with a nail biting victory 34-26.
