Knox County 911 Operations Director Laura Webster informed the Knox County Board of Commissioners during its July 8 meeting that only 51 out of the 10,417 calls made to 911 in June were from landlines.

"It's pretty rare, mostly businesses and a few residents that still have landlines, so most of those calls are coming in cellular," Webster said. "And so we have to look and determine the location. If they can't advise the location, but they hang up before we can answer, then we call back."

According to the commission's meeting video, Webster said that most 911 calls are answered within zero to three seconds. Of these calls, 1,267 were answered within three seconds, and another 442 were answered within four to nine seconds. State requirements mandate that 90% of the calls reaching the center must be answered within four to nine seconds. Only four of the calls took longer than this standard out of the total 1,713 incoming calls in June.

Webster also reported that 5,688 of the calls made to 911 were non-emergency. The peak day for these calls was Monday, with the busiest hour being at 3 p.m.

Webster's report further detailed six burglary dispatches, along with responses to 122 disturbances and 33 domestic violence incidents. Additionally, there were three drug overdose incidents and five drug-related incidents dispatched. Mental health-related calls numbered at 25, with attempts or threats of suicide totaling 33; one suicide incident occurred.
