Lexington moves on to D-2 Regional softball finals with blowout win over Springfield

Lexington’s strong playoff run continued, with the Minutemen toppling the Springfield Spartans 18-1 in the Regional Semifinals of the Division II softball tournament on May 22.

Lexington jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in the blowout victory. They also had two runs in the third inning and blew up for nine runs in the fourth inning. Springfield’s lone run came in the third inning.

The Minutemen belted 17 hits in the win, led by Jillian Morr who was 4-for-4 with all her hits being doubles. She also had five RBIs, two runs and a steal in what was a fantastic all-around game for the catcher.

Kaylie Eichorn went 2-for-4 with a three run homer, four RBIs and a run, and Kylie Thornton was 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a pair of walks. Kylie Galownia blasted a three-run shot, and went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Quinn Patrick hit a homer, and went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Makaree Chapman picked up the win, with the lefty ace allowing one run and three hits, while walking four and striking out 11 over five innings.

Lexington was the number one seed in the Northwest 3 sectional and district brackets. They started off with a 15-2 Sectional Final win over No. 10 Columbian on May 10, where Thornton went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs. Morr was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

On May 14, Lexington beat No. 6 Ontario 7-1 in the District Semifinals, where Morr led the charge with a 4-for-4 day. She scored four runs and hit a pair of doubles. Eichorn went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Chapman pitched a complete game gem, allowing four hits, four walks, and one earned run, while striking out seven.

On May 16 they won the District Finals in a 7-1 win over No. 2 Clear Fork, where Chapman struck out nine and allowed five hits in a complete game win.

Lexington looked to keep their state title hopes alive when they took on Bryan on May 24, but fell 4-1 to end their season 28-3.
