Centerburg’s Hause and LeMaster win titles at Raider Invite
Two Centerburg wrestlers won championships and one finished second at the Benjamin Logan Raider Invitational, Jan. 28.
Xenia took the team crown with 198.0 points, defeating Clinton-Massie (180.5 points) among 18 competing schools. Locally, Centerburg was 11th with 86.0 points. Trojan freshman Thomas Hause won first place in the 144-lb. weight class with a 4-0 decision over Wayne junior Joe Conti. Junior Caylan LeMaster won the 157-lb. title with a 7-5 decision over senior Alex Moore of Franklin Heights and Centerburg junior Charlie Sargent finished second at 215 lbs., losing a 16-7 decision to Xenia sophomore Ronnie Butler.
Becker wins at 126, Campbell second at 138 for Knights at Sally George Invite
Northmor finished in 11th of 24 competing teams at the Pleasant - Sally George Invitational, Jan. 27-28. The Golden Knights tallied 97.0 points. Ontario High School won the team title with a dominating 199.0 points, 23 points better than Liberty Center’s 176.0. Among local schools, Mount Gilead was 23rd with 1.0 point.
Top local finishers were all from Northmor, with Cowin Becker winning the 126-lb. weight class with a 5-3 decision over Logan Elm’s Gavin Hoover. Golden Knight Carson Campbell was second at 138 lbs., losing a 9-2 decision to Ontario’s Mason Turnbaugh. Ethan Amens was third at 113 lbs., and Ashton Clark was fourth at 165 lbs.
Highland’s Dill takes first at 285 in Jimmy Wood Extras
Thirty schools went to combat at the Jimmy Wood Invitational at New Lexington High School, Jan. 28, with Highland finishing in seventh place with 134.0 points, as host New Lexington won the team title with 238.0 points, just 4.0 ahead of Lancaster (234.0). Other top finishers for the Fighting Scots were Konner Blaney, fourth at 106 lbs.; Brendan Lester, fifth at 113 lbs.; Caleb Wetzel, fifth at 132 lbs.; Cael Gilmore, fifth at 138 lbs. and Landon Pedigo, fifth at 285 lbs.
Twenty schools faced off at the Jimmy Wood Invitational Extras, with Warren taking the team title with 93.0 points to best Maysville by 7.0 (86.0 points). Highland managed a ninth-place finish with 35.5 points, led by Archer Dill’s first-place title in the 285-lb. weight class. Dill pinned Coshocton’s Allan Harstine to win the championship.
Hill, Smith win gold for Utica, 3 Fighting Scots take silver
Utica hosted the Utica Invitational, Jan. 28 and the Redskins finished second to Newark among 20 competing teams. Newark scored 189.0 points to Utica’s 165.0, with Olentangy Berlin finishing third with 160.0. Fredericktown came in 11th with 82.0 points.
Breyden Hill won the 126-lb. title for the Redskins with a 7-4 decision over independent wrestler Alex Mickens and 150-pounder Clayton Smith won the crown by a fall over Wooster’s Dylan Hudson.
Other top Redskin placers included Anthony Unger, third at 106 lbs.; Robert Cotsamire, fifth at 144 lbs.; Andrew Lewis, fourth at 165 lbs. and Brandon Thornsberry, fourth at 215 lbs.
A trio of wrestlers won silver for Fredericktown. Trent Rooke was second at 120 lbs., Mason Hoeflich was second at 190 lbs. and Lucas Herbst took second at 285 lbs.
Rose wins bronze for Freddies at Iron Maiden
Lillian Rose took third in the 190-lb. weight classification for the Fredericktown girls wrestling team at the Iron Maiden Invitational hosted by Bellafontaine High School, Jan. 28.
Fredericktown finished in 18th place among 49 competing teams, scoring 35.0 points. Marysville won the team title with 206.0 points. Delaware Hayes was second with 162.0.
Rose took her third-place match by pinning Sarah Kegley of McLain in 3:26.
In addition to Rose’s third-place finish, top Freddies’ finishers included Camille McKinley, fifth place at 135 lbs. and Lyliah Leist, eighth at 135 lbs.
