Both teams had a difficult team finding the basket on Feb. 10 when Ontario (8-13, 4-10) beat Highland (7-13, 5-9) by a score of 36-30.

Bryleigh Young had the hot hand from deep to start the game, and the Highland girls’ basketball team (6-10, 5-6) rode their momentum from the opening quarter right to the end with a 49-24 win over Galion (3-14, 0-11) on Jan. 25.

In November of 2022, the then third-year NJROTC cadets of Highland High School presented the idea of attending the 82nd Commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor, to Highland NJROTC program manager, Command Master Chief(ret) Aaron Shipley.

Highland (5-8, 4-5) picked up a 39-34 conference win over Marion Harding (2-10, 2-6) on Jan. 16, as the Lady Scots fended off a comeback attempt by the Presidents to secure the victory.

The Naval Science Instructor and Command Master Chief (ret) Aaron Shipley and Principal Chad Carpenter of Highland High School presented the Legion of Valor Award Bronze Cross for Scholastic Achievement to Navy JROTC Cadet/Lieutenant Commander Brianna Tuggle, company commander of the SCOTS Navy JROTC Unit during an awards ceremony at Highland High School.

It took two overtimes but the Lady Scots were able to snap a three game winning streak with a 46-40 win over Ontario, led by Bryleigh Young’s 13 point performance.

The Highland (3-7, 2-4) girls' basketball team has had an up-and-down season so far, and most recently they were handily beaten 45-9 by Granville (9-0, 2-0).

The Cardington-Lincoln boys’ basketball team beat the Highland Fighting Scots (1-7, 0-5) 64-46 on Dec. 30, with the duo of AJ Hall and Warren Garrison providing some fire power from three point land in a huge second half.

The Highland girls’ basketball team (3-6, 2-4) struggled to score in a Dec. 22 matchup with Clear Fork (8-2, 5-1) in a 40-20 loss in a non-conference game at MVNU’s Ariel Arena.

The Highland girls’ basketball team went 1-1 last week with the win coming over Highland, giving the Lady Scots a 3-5 record and 2-3 in conference play with Shelby and Clear Fork leading the pack.

The Highland wrestling team took first place at the Tom Ellis Classic on Dec. 9, led by Hunter Taylor as the 190 pound champion going 5-0 with five pins.

Last week the Highland girls’ basketball team (2-2, 0-1) was down big early against Northridge (1-2, 0-0), but Kate Clements and the Lady Scots battled back and took a 53-52 win at home on Nov. 25 to pick up their first win of the season.

Fredericktown and Highland went head to head in girls’ basketball on Nov. 23, and Cally Carpenter put on a show for the Freddies to lead the team to a 51-37 win over the Lady Scots.
