Solar power generating facilities in neighboring Licking and Franklin counties received approval from the Ohio Power Siting Board on Oct. 20.

The board approved Harvey Solar’s plan to construct a 350 megawatt (MW) solar-powered electric generating facility within a 2,630-acre project area in Hartford and Bennington townships in Licking County,

The board approved a solar-powered electric generating facility and a battery energy storage project in separate sites in Franklin County.

Pleasant Prairie Solar to construct a 250 MW solar-powered electric generating facility within a 2,400-acre project area in Pleasant and Prairie townships in Franklin County.

Both solar power generating facilities will consist of arrays of solar panels, access roads, an operations and maintenance building, underground electric collection lines, weather stations, inverters and transformers, and a collection substation. Landscape and lighting plans that include vegetative screening will be implemented to minimize aesthetic concerns and will be used at both sites.

Flint Grid received approval to construct a 200 MW battery energy storage project on 15 acres in Jersey Township in Licking County. The project will have an 800-megawatt-hour discharge capacity. It will consist of battery containers, inverters, transformers, underground electric collection lines, a collection substation, a 138 kV electric transmission line and perimeter fencing.

The board denied Birch Solar 1, LLC’s application to construct a solar-powered electric generating facility in Allen and Auglaize counties. All four governments in the proposed project area opposed its approval.
