The Area Development Foundation (ADF) of Knox County has been recognized at the 2025 Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA) Annual Summit in Akron, Ohio. The foundation received two statewide awards and was a finalist for a third, marking significant achievements for both the organization and the Knox County community.
The OEDA is a professional organization dedicated to advancing economic development through advocacy, education, and recognition. Each year, it honors projects, programs, and individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field.
ADF's Knox WorkDev initiative won the Excellence in Workforce Development award for its innovative approach to connecting employers, educators, and community organizations. The program has become a model for other regions aiming to strengthen their talent pipelines. Julia Suggs, ADF Vice President and Chair of Knox WorkDev, commented on the award: "This award is a testament to the dedication and resiliency of our local employers and their passion for connecting individuals to high-quality career pathways in our most in-demand fields."
Additionally, Sam Filkins, President of ADF, was named Ohio Economic Developer of the Year. This top individual honor recognizes outstanding contributions to economic development in Ohio. Filkins was acknowledged for his leadership with the Knox County Land Bank and various redevelopment initiatives at ADF. He said: "Being named Economic Developer of the Year is an incredible honor. This recognition reflects the collaborative spirit that defines Knox County."
Heartland Commerce Park was also named a finalist for Economic Development Project of the Year due to its transformation of an industrial brownfield through collaboration among local partners.
