The City of Mount Vernon, OH, announced a special screening of the documentary The Little Things That Run the World, which will take place on July 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lowry Center Theatre, located at 221 Duff St., Gambier, Ohio.

The documentary examines the important role that flying insects play in maintaining ecosystems, investigates reasons for their recent population declines, and highlights efforts by individuals working to protect them. The film has received recognition on the festival circuit, earning awards such as Best Documentary at the East Lansing Film Festival, Best Feature Film at the Poulsbo Film Festival, Best Environmental Film at the Orion International Film Festival, Best Cinematography at the Twelve Lions Film Festival, the Spirit Award for Sustainable Futures at the Ceres Food Film Festival, and the Jen Snyder-Bryceland Award at the Lighthouse International Film Festival.

The event will begin with opening remarks from Mayor Starr. Following the screening, attendees are invited to participate in a post-screening talkback session focused on discussing issues raised in the film.

Organizers describe this as an opportunity for community members interested in environmental topics and conservation efforts to engage in meaningful conversation about challenges facing flying insect populations and broader ecological concerns.
