Yellow Jackets wrestlers edged out for first at Ron Thomas Invite

Three Mount Vernon wrestlers struck gold at last weekend’s Ron Thomas Senior Invitational at Jonathan Alder High School in. Plain City, Ohio, and finished second among 21 teams. The Jackets were edged out of first by Licking Valley, 170-169. Grove City finished third with 154 points, and host Jonathan Alder was fourth with 146.

Yellow Jackets gold medalists at the meet were Brock Blankenhorn at 106 pounds,  Dylan Hartman at 113 pounds and Colton Spurgeon at 126 pounds. Winning silver was Jack Taylor at 150. Bronze medal winners were Charlie Bell at 126 pounds and Zach Thomas at 175. Jackets team leader Nate Stradley, who went into the meet with only two losses, finished in fourth place at 285 pounds, losing twice, including the bronze match against Damon Hay of Jonathan Alder, who is 20-6 this season.

For Mount Vernon:

Brock Blankenhorn (17-6) won at 106 pounds and went 3-0.

Dylan Hartman (19-5) won at 114 pounds and went 3-0

Dalton Curtis (18-7) went 1-2 at 126 pounds

Charlie Bell (24-8) placed third at 126 pounds and went 3-1

Colton Spurgeon (24-3) won at 126 pounds and went 4-0

Rylan Firebaugh (16-9) went 2-2 at 132 pounds

Kayden Packard (17-8) went 1-2 at 138 pounds

Isaac Burrell (16-10) went 1-2 at 138 pounds

Logan Moore (13-10) went 1-2 at 144 pounds

Conner Lang (11-9) went 1-2 at 144 pounds

Jack Taylor (17-8) placed second at 150 pounds and went 3-1

Karter Harris (21-13) placed fourth at 157 pounds and went 4-2

Kyler Howard (14-13) went 2-2 at 165 pounds

Zach Thomas (24-7) placed third at 175 pounds and went 4-1

Nate Stradley (18-4) placed fourth at 285 pounds and went 3-2.
