A public hearing will be held to gather public comments on a proposal to update the city's Planning and Zoning Code. The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 22 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The proposal includes a revised official Zoning Map.

At its June 10 meeting, the Mount Vernon City Council gave the go ahead for city staff to apply for funding through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Community Change Program. Funding through the program could be as high as $20 million.

The Mount Vernon City Council has approved a joint partnership with Clinton Township to apply for $20 million in funds from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Community-Driven Investments for Change program. The council suspended the requirement for three separate readings of the resolution during its June 10 meeting.

An attempt by Councilmember Mike Miller to limit employee meal reimbursements to overnight travel failed on a 2-4 vote by the Mount Vernon City Council on May 28. The council approved its revised employee travel ordinance.

Mount Vernon City Council approved an amendment to its Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) Signage ordinance to avoid a reversion to the previous language of the legislation. The ordinance was adopted during its May 28 meeting.

The Mount Vernon Police Department has received authorization to dispose of four vehicles no longer needed for public use. Safety-Service Director Tanner Salyers was directed by the Mount Vernon City Council on May 28 to sell or dispose of the vehicles.

The Mount Vernon City Council approved a change of titles for four jobs within the Safety and Service Departments without altering compensation. The vote took place on May 28.

The Mount Vernon City Council is contemplating modifications to its employee travel ordinance, a document that has remained unchanged for over two decades. The council scheduled a brief committee meeting for discussion prior to its regular meeting on May 28.

U.S. Air Force veteran Jack Scott will serve as parade grand marshal for the Mount Vernon Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27.

The Mount Vernon City Council has postponed the public hearing on a rezoning proposal for Arista Villas Mount Vernon, located on Vernonview Drive. The public will now have an additional month to review the proposal.
