The Mount Vernon City Council approved a change of titles for four jobs within the Safety and Service Departments without altering compensation. The vote took place on May 28.

According to the draft minutes package of the Mount Vernon City Council's May 28 meeting, the police captain will receive the new title of assistant police chief. Additionally, the project engineer in the Engineering Department will be designated as construction manager, and the fire department's executive secretary will be titled executive administrator.

The proposed title change for the police department's executive secretary was administrative assistant. However, Councilmember Tammy Woods moved that this position instead be called executive assistant. According to the draft minutes package, Councilmember Mel Severns seconded her motion, which passed by a 6-0 vote.

Woods had initially made a motion to suspend the requirement for three separate readings of the ordinance, with a second by Councilmember James Mahan. This motion also passed by a 6-0 vote, allowing the ordinance to be adopted at its second reading.
