The Mount Vernon City Council approved an ordinance to increase the number of crew leaders and traffic signal technicians during its meeting on June 24.

According to the draft minutes packet from the June 24 meeting, the Public Works Department was authorized to have three crew leaders and one traffic signal technician. Additionally, it was allowed a maximum of 16 technicians, two customer support specialists II, and seasonal personnel.

The legislation approved on June 24 reduced the number of Public Works technicians from 16 to 13 to increase the numbers for other positions. The Public Works Department can now have five crew leaders and two traffic signal technicians. The number of customer support specialists remained unchanged.

City Councilmember Tammy Woods moved to approve the ordinance, with Councilmember Amber Keener seconding it. The ordinance passed unanimously.

The Mount Vernon City Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of every month. It includes seven elected members: President Bruce E. Hawkins, James Mahan (Ward 1), John Ruckman (Ward 2), Tammy Woods (Ward 3), Mike Miller (Ward 4), Amber Keener (At-Large), Mel Severns (At-Large), and Janis Seavolt (At-Large).
